From an early age I’ve always loved telling stories. Histories. People’s stories. Jackanory was my favourite TV show and as a Printer’s son, the house was always full of books.
My big break came aged eleven when I submitted a cartoon to the ‘Topper’ Comic letters page; it was printed and I won a Diving Submarine powered by Bicarbonate of Soda. It wasn’t a living wage but as an eleven-year-old an event like that can be truly inspiring.
Celebrant
Acting as a Celebrant was a natural progression from my Public Speaking engagements after several contacts had asked me to create celebrations of their loved one’s lives. There is no greater privilege than creating and conveying the spirit of someone to those who knew them best.
Over the years various groups have asked me to talk to them and give my take on a wide range of subjects from Business Change, Local and World History to oddly, Retro styling. The talks are funny, a little abstract but ultimately thought-provoking. Details can be found here in the Absurvd pages.
Writer and Author
Seven years spent providing the satirical, “Colby’s Column” to the then Amicus Union’s monthly magazine “Dispatches”, lead to contributing the “TaleEnder” humorous travel and lifestyle column to CH Publications’ “ItalianBike” Motorcycle magazine – sadly no longer in print. Having won the New Statesman’s weekly writing competition 75 times, the New Statesman itself commissioned me to provide the “Working Crunch” satirical column.
A couple of books followed for Kindle and in print – essentially collections of thoughts and columns – you’ll find them all here.
