Timeline: October 2121
It is now estimated the exploitation the 20/21st Century Landfill Mines will have to cease as soon as 2135. With increasing numbers of Oldfields and Oldmines already closed, this generation is already paying the price for the selfish excesses of the so-called Age of Awkwardus – the shameful period of human history obsessed with self and recycling, re-purposing and reuse. A time when nearly all materials were retained in the production chain rather than being diverted to landfill sites ready for use by generations to come.
A Veritable Old Mine
What we now know as Raw Materialism makes us wonder what the populations of the early 21st Century were thinking when they celebrated the closure of highly successful, working landfill sites? Having exhausted the world’s fossil fuel reserves, did they not see they were duty-bound to replace them with their own waste? No. In a monumental, global act of narcissistic materialism they decided to keep everything as something for themselves, leaving no realistic deposits for future generations to mine or exploit. One can only wonder at the self-import of a people obsessed with the retention of nearly everything they ever bought by sending it back into production so they could go shopping all the more. Ironically of course, the purchase of goods recycled from stuff you’ve just used means on balance nothing new has been created. Only more energy was wasted leaving even less for their children and their children’s children – an obvious law of physics.
What’s Mine Is Yours

The ideal of less is more, means you declutter and send all your stuff to landfill, so it can become something else but only when it is suitable to be mined out. Another irony of that insane era is that records show that people expended enormous amounts of precious energy in segregating waste, only for it to be recycled into what it had previously been. Segregate by all means BUT send to landfill! Why oh why didn’t they do that a century ago? Imagine how simple mining would be now if we could go to pure plastic punnet deposits or rich seams of coffee cup lids? Instead the dwindling supplies of mixed waste are becoming increasingly costly to exploit.
Angry Young Mine
So pity the ignored visionaries of that era. Ross Oldpark, owner of the Bell Tubular Old Minefield and Author of ‘Mine Camp’, claims many of his CloneMinersTM have found placards and other evidence of these revolutionaries’ futile campaign to ‘Catch it, Kill It, Bin It’ and ‘Save the NHS’ (Next Human Species) believed to date from as early as 2020.
No Greta Rien

Many small Oldfields have already closed with the loss of thousands of Clone roles; respectfully these Clones have been buried next to their batteries in the very mines they worked. Their time will come. Time and again we hear of another precious resource approaching the so-called Thunberg Discontinuity Horizon – when the only thing left at the end of the tunnel is, in fact, light. All too soon waste mining will become just a thing of the future.
